Matt Clarke is the head of marketing at Performance Marketing Group Limited (PMG), a regulated-industry marketing agency, and runs matt clarke / ai as an independent AI automation practice.

He has spent 12 years writing copy, buying ads, and running marketing operations for health and medical-legal clients. At PMG he manages a team of seven and runs three brands inside a single regulated medical-legal niche. PMG spent $6.5M+ in paid media in 2025 across five active Google Ads accounts, most of it concentrated in three. Profitably. He builds the AI tools his own marketing operation uses first, ships them inside the business, then helps other operators do the same in theirs through matt clarke / ai.

The operator manifesto

I build what I would run myself.

Most AI consultants have never run a business with their own ad budget and their own regulators on the line. They learned AI by watching tutorials, then started a consulting practice.

I went the other direction. I have been head of marketing at the same group for over a decade. The AI work started because the systems we ran on were too slow, too manual, and too expensive to scale. I built the first tools for our own teams. They worked. Other operators noticed. Now I do this for them.

Three things follow from that.

I only build what I would run myself.

If a tool is too brittle, too expensive, or too hard to maintain for my own operation, I will not sell it to you. Every build gets pressure-tested inside PMG before it ships to a client.

I build internal, not customer-facing.

The patient calls the clinic. The plaintiff calls the firm. The lead calls the practice. I do not put a chatbot between you and your audience. I build the back-office tools that let your humans do the human part faster.

I work in regulated niches by choice.

Compliance is a moat. The operators who get this right will compound for the next 10 years. The ones who treat compliance as a constraint to design around will be the cautionary tales in the case studies.

If a tool cannot survive PMG's day job, it will not survive your business either. Every build I sell has earned its keep inside my own operation first.

Medellín, Colombia.

I work from Medellín, Colombia. Calls run on whatever timezone makes the math work for the client. I travel to clients in North America and the UK quarterly when a build needs in-person time.
